Molly Scott Cato - Valley Ward

Molly-Scott-CatoThis is such an important time to use your vote!

I want to build on the work that Sarah Lunnon has started as a District Councillor, including:

  • The introduction of 20mph zones
  • Achieving the investment of £200,000 in renewable energy
  • Major improvements to flood management and sewage systems in the Slad Valley

John Marjoram - Trinity Ward

John Marjoram - Stroud District Council candidate Trinity WardIn my 25 years as the District Councillor for Trinity Ward, this is probably going to be the most difficult time to seek re-election. For the swingeing 28% cuts that this coalition have imposed on our Council will make it extremely difficult to produce many creative benefits for our community. Despite this I will try my utmost to see that Stroud gets its fair share of funding.

As I write I am challenging, together with the Town Council, the proposed increase in Stroud car parking fees. This will have a damaging effect on local businesses, while some other towns in this District have free car parking!

Martin Whiteside - Thrupp Ward

Martin Whiteside - Stroud District Council candidate Thrupp WardI have been your District Councillor for Thrupp and parts of Brimscombe, Bownham, Swellshill, Butterrow and Rodborough for nine years. I have worked hard to represent you on many issues, including:

Brimscombe Post Office - I, along with others, worked to prevent permanent loss of our PO and helped achieve the opening of the PO counter within the newsagent. I support us all using our local shops and pubs, as otherwise we risk losing them.

Richard Dean - Chalford Ward

Richard Dean - Stroud District Council candidate Chalford WardI have lived in Chalford for eight years and have worked as a local GP since then.

Standing in the District Council elections for the Green Party in 2010, I polled a significant 1,041 votes.

My aim in joining the Green Party was to focus attention on the role local communities have in tackling climate change. I strongly believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to do what we can to change the way we live to a more sustainable lifestyle.

Simon Pickering - Slade Ward

Simon Pickering, Stroud District Council candidate for Slade WardI am very pleased to be asked by Gwen Belcher, your current District Councillor, to stand for election in this ward in which I was a Councillor with Gwen back in the 1990s.

During that time, I secured funding for road crossings and traffic calming, and reduced the number of double yellow lines in the area. I established the ‘rent in advance’ scheme to help young people move into private rented accommodation and supported the relocation of the Parliament School. I successfully fought for funding for energy efficiency improvements in both council housing and private housing.
